Reusable vs Disposable Make-up Pads – The Green Papaya

Reusable vs Disposable Make-up Pads

It is very common to find at the supermarket disposable make-up removal pads. For women that is a “must to have” for a daily routine of the skin.

So, let’s try to understand a little bit what is behind those simple cotton pads.

“Unnecessary waste of cotton pads leads to high demand of cotton. High demand means high production, which isn’t great for the environment. The largest environmental impact of single use cotton pads is the pesticides used to grow the cotton in the first place. Pesticides deplete soil quality and then as a direct result, leach into the water systems which affects the animals and people living within in the growing areas. Researchers have found that the fertilizers used on cotton are the most detrimental to the environment.

Finally, the amount of water needed to produce one kilogram of cotton is the same amount of water one person would drink over three years. One kg of cotton is enough to make one cotton t-shirt and you wouldn’t throw that away after one use. “

Reusable cotton pads is an alternative for the traditional disposable ones.

WHY CHOOSE REUSABLE COTTON PADS?

  1. You Reduce The Amount Of Waste At Home

In average, each woman uses 2 or 3 cotton pads per day which amounts to around 1 thousand per year. Regular cotton pads don't biodegrade due to the bleaching and mixing processes used to create them.

One reusable pad is the equivalent to using up to 300 disposable cotton pads.

  1. You Save Money

It fits for all the products, once you purchase something reusable, that means you will use more than 1,2 or 3 times. So, we can reach the conclusion that the quality is better and I don’t need to go back any soon to buy again the same product.

Fairly, the price will be a little bit higher compared to disposable products. But think as an investment!

For example: if you buy one pack of cotton pads per month and pay around 2€ each, in one year you will have spent 24€ plus sent lots of waste to the landfills.

While you can purchase 16 reusable pads for just €14,99 and that will last probably more than one year.

  1. It Is Better For Your Skin

Disposable face wipes can cause blocked pores or skin irritation due to chemicals within, however, reusable pads are less abrasive on the skin.

  1. It Is Durable And Eco-Friendly

Reusable make-up pads are better for the environment than makeup wipes (which are often made of non-biodegradable materials such as polyester), filling your trash with so many single-use pads can have a negative environmental impact. This is why we love using reusable makeup pads. Not only are they eco-friendly, but also durable.

Each pad can last up to 1,000 washes and help effectively and gently remove makeup and impurities without leaving any residue behind.

It is important to wash your pads in a durable mesh laundry bag to prevent them from going missing in the wash and to protect them from hooks, zippers and rough fabrics that can reduce the life of your reusable make-up pads.
